Halloween has always been a special time of year. It is a time when the trees are in full bloom with a whole array of colors, the pumpkins are ripe for picking, and pumpkin pies, and bowls of candy seem to be everywhere.

Often the most popular costumes for Halloween are the people that have made the biggest splash in the news during the year, such as a current president, or a politician who has had some bad publicity during the year.

It is also a common practice for trick-or-treaters, or Halloween party goers, to make their own costume. These can often be some of the best costumes if done properly. The best part about this approach is that the costume will be unique, and no one else will show up wearing the same thing you are wearing.

Halloween fun also includes a few games that are associated with the holiday. Bobbing for apples is probably the most popular Halloween game played at parties. It involves having participants try to grab apples that are floating in a tub of water, using only their teeth.

Another common game is to kneel on a chair above the floating apples, with a fork in your mouth, and try to drop the fork into one of the floating apples, and have it stick in.

It is thought that these games became so popular, because the holiday falls during the same time, that apples are ready for harvest, and the plentiful supply lead to the creation of several games.

The term trick or treat which is common in the United States, and many other parts of the world, was originally started to mean, that if a treat was not given on Halloween, the homeowner could expect that a trick would be played on them as retaliation.

In other parts of the world it means something totally different. In Scotland for instance, the person looking for a treat from the homeowner, is expected to perform a trick first, such as singing a song or telling a story, to earn their treat.

One thing is for sure. No matter what type of costume you prefer, what culture you follow, or what favorite games you like to play, Halloween is just a fun time for both kids and adults.
